Troubleshooting

Fixes for the most common issues. For everything else, the full handbook is built into the app — Help → serrv Help.

App won't open

If serrv says it isn't in your Applications folder, it needs to run from there.

  • Quit serrv, move serrv.app to your Applications folder, and open it from there.
  • When you quit, serrv reveals the current copy in Finder so you can move it.
  • If macOS shows a security warning, make sure the app is in Applications and open it from there — or right-click it and choose Open. serrv is notarized by Apple.
Previews blank

serrv asks for Local Network permission to show preview thumbnails inside the app.

  • Allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network → serrv.
  • Then run Help → System Check… again — previews refresh automatically.
  • This only affects the in-app preview; the sites themselves open fine in your browser.
HTTPS warning

A certificate warning means the locally trusted certificate isn't installed correctly.

  • Open Help → System Check… — it can reinstall the local certificate.
  • If a site is unreachable, check that its folder still exists; serrv marks a missing folder on the site card.
PHP / database

serrv handles static files only — HTML, CSS, JavaScript and images. It does not run PHP, Python or databases.

  • For dynamic sites or a database, use MAMP PRO.
