Save and Reuse Your Own WordPress Environment as a Blueprint
How it helps you
"As an agency that regularly creates WordPress projects for different clients, I want to save an already optimized WordPress installation including themes, plugins, and basic settings as a reusable Blueprint in MAMP PRO, so that I can start new projects with a ready-to-use, consistent foundation.
This allows me to
- set up every new project faster,
- automate recurring setup tasks like theme configuration or plugin installation,
- and provide my team with a standardized starter setup,
which saves time, reduces errors, and ensures the quality of client projects – whether for single websites, WooCommerce shops, or complex agency setups."
With the Blueprints feature in MAMP PRO, you can save a completed WordPress installation as a template. This saves you from repeating the same steps (e.g., WordPress setup, installing plugins, configuring the theme) for every new project.
Why It Matters
Blueprints save you a great deal of time in recurring projects. Instead of setting up a new WordPress installation from scratch each time, you start with a tested, consistent foundation – allowing you to focus right away on the actual project work.
Tips & Best Practices
- Create multiple Blueprints: Make different templates for various scenarios (e.g., Standard WordPress, WooCommerce Shop, Multisite).
- Update regularly: If you change your Blueprint (e.g., new plugin versions), save it again.
Requirements
- MAMP PRO is installed and set up.
- You already have a WordPress site that you want to use as a template.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Prepare your project
- Open your WordPress site in MAMP PRO.
- Make sure it’s set up exactly the way you want to use it in the future (e.g., plugins, theme, basic settings).
- Tip: Remove demo content and set a default theme if needed.
2. Create a Blueprint
- Select your prepared WordPress site from the Sites list.
- Drag and drop the site into the Blueprints section.
Your Blueprint is now saved and will be available in the list for future use.
3. Create a new project from a Blueprint
- Click “+ Add Site” in the toolbar.
- In the dialog window, open the “Blueprints” tab.
- Select your desired Blueprint from the list.
- Enter a site name (e.g., client-xyz).
- Confirm with Create.
MAMP PRO automatically creates a new site based on your Blueprint – including database, files, and configuration.
4. Customize your project
- Customize the new site as needed (e.g., client data, content).
- Plugins, themes, or settings saved in the Blueprint are immediately available.
